A frustrated young man traveled from his home in Rama 4 to “Mae Tak Gold Shop,” throwing away over 10 promotional items in front of the store. On September 25, 2024, it was reported that many customers traveled nationwide to return Pi Xie gold and promotional items to Mae Tak Gold Shop. This was the second day of customers arriving, as the shop was located in a 5-story building in Khlong Samwa, Bangkok, owned by 36-year-old online businesswoman Ms. Korakarn Suwanbut and her husband, Mr. Kantapol Ruang-aram.
The police provided assistance and issued queue numbers while the shop set up tents for customers. The queue grew to 200 customers on the previous day, leading to an increase in available spots to 300, with queue numbers distributed from 10 AM to 4 PM and expected to clear by 7 PM.
Traffic on Hathairaj Road extended for about 500 meters due to only two outbound lanes available, with many vehicles parked.
A customer, 37-year-old Mr. Sittisak Sukboon, shared that he took leave to return promotional items gotten from a Pi Xie gold bracelet his mother bought for nearly THB 40,000 back in 2021, intending to pass it down. However, it broke while in daily use.
Upset by the situation, Mr. Sittisak brought back the over 10 promotional items to the store, stating sarcastically that anyone without them could take them away.
When asked about his thoughts on the gold shop, he suggested an investigation into potential fraud but confirmed no legal action would be taken, leaving it up to fate as he returned home.
Police Colonel Yingyos Chalaprue, Head of Nimitmai Police Station, visited the shop to aid in crowd management and spoke with customers returning gold. No reports of victims filing complaints had yet been found regarding this online gold purchasing incident, and support would continue until all unwanted gold had been returned.
