On September 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM, Police Major General Teeradech Thammasuthee led a team that arrested Mr. Patanarat or “Tun” under the warrant issued by the Thaling Chan Criminal Court on September 24, 2024, for collaboration in theft using a vehicle. The arrest took place at the suspect’s home in Ratchapathana, Saphan Sung, Bangkok.
The case originated when a victim posted a request to buy a car for daily use. A broker, appearing to be a young woman, contacted the victim, claiming to have a Toyota Vigo pickup truck available for sale. When the vehicle was to be delivered, the broker gave the victim the keys and instructed them to park the car outside their home. Shortly after, unknown assailants stole the vehicle. The victim reported this to the police at Thammasala station.
Investigators discovered that the thieves were linked to the same individuals who arranged the vehicle for the victim, suggesting that they had generated new keys for the car before the theft.
During questioning, the suspect denied involvement in the theft but admitted to helping source vehicles for sale to the victim. The task force remains skeptical due to the suspect’s extensive history related to vehicle purchase, sales, and pawning, indicating that the car could have been acquired through illicit means.
Police Major General Teeradech Thammasuthee advised vehicle owners looking to sell or pawn their cars to exercise caution, particularly in verifying contracts and dealings, to avoid becoming victims of fraud or facing legal issues.
