Investigation into “Rong Bird” death at police station due to depression

Progress on the tragic incident involving Pol. Lt. Yosanan Warangkhee, Deputy Chief of the Domestic Violence Prevention Unit at Udomsuk Police Station, who ended his life at his desk. The initial findings suggest it occurred after a meeting and is suspected to be related to his battle with depression.

At approximately 3:30 PM on September 30, 2024, it was reported that Pol. Lt. Yosanan, known as “Deputy Bird,” died at his office within the police station. The scene was cordoned off for investigation, and the exact cause was not initially determined. Recently it was revealed that while another officer was on duty in the interrogation room downstairs, he heard a gunshot from the second floor. Upon investigating, he found Pol. Lt. Yosanan, aged 44, sitting in full uniform at his desk with a gunshot wound to the right temple from a 9mm firearm, which was found next to him on the floor.

The incident was reported to senior police officials, including Pol. Lt. Gen. Nopasil Poolswat, Deputy Chief of Police, and other relevant authorities for further investigation.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Nopasil stated that prior to the incident, there was a police conference at 11 AM discussing the results of crime suppression efforts for September. Shortly after the meeting, the tragic event occurred. It was noted that Pol. Lt. Yosanan had been suffering from depression and had expressed to close associates his reluctance to continue medication.

Despite the challenges, the Udomsuk Police Station had shown effective crime-fighting performance, and recently Pol. Lt. Yosanan had received a salary increase. His health was generally reported as good, having previously worked as a diving instructor. The suspected cause of his action appears to be linked to his mental health condition. His body has been transferred to the police hospital’s forensic unit for a detailed autopsy.
