Loeki de Leeuw
Loeki de Leeuw returns after a long absence in the commercial breaks of the public broadcaster. The mascot will appear on television again in the coming sports summer.
Frank Volmer, director of STER, says in the program Jan-Willem Starts on NPO Radio 2 that the famous lion will perform during the European Football Championship, the Olympic Games and the Tour de France anyway. “And we are now talking with the NPO at which other moments he can come back.”
‘Ashemenou’
The clumsy little lion Loeki was seen in no fewer than 7000 films between 1972 and 2004 at the commercial breaks of the STER. Things went wrong regularly in his adventures; he therefore often said ‘asjemenou’. The movies lasted only a few seconds.
Just like in the past, the new films of the lion are made with stop-motion technology; images in which Loeki is put in a slightly different position each time are pasted one after the other. The videos are now combined with new techniques. Volmer says that the decor for the new films will be made digitally.
The little lion made a one-off comeback two years ago: Roodbeen’s radio program started a petition for the return of the lion, which was signed 20,000 times within a short period of time. Subsequently, a film that has not been shown before appeared in the commercial for the NOS Achtuurjournaal.
