A complete travel guide in Koh Kho Khao island, so you can treat yourselves another week of sun, beach and relaxation.
Our demands were not simple: we wanted the perfect beach, nice accommodation with a touch of luxury, but not too much of it either. And then of course the whole thing shouldn’t be infinitely expensive.
The search wasn’t easy, but we found it all: on the island of Koh Kho Khao! Never heard? That doesn’t matter, because the island was completely unknown to us.
In this article you will find all information about Koh Kho Khao, and of course we will also tell you which accommodation on Koh Kho Khao that we can warmly recommend.
Arrival and location
Where is Koh Kho Khao located?
Koh Kho Khao is located on the west coast of Thailand, and is about 100 kilometers north of Phuket and 30 kilometers north of Khao Lak.
The island itself is not very big. It measures about 10 kilometers from north to south and about 5 kilometers from east to west. The island is only a few hundred meters away from the Thai mainland.

How do I get to Koh Kho Khao?
The closest airport is Phuket Airport. We flew from Bangkok to Phuket ourselves. Numerous flights are offered on the route every day. It is cheap. With Thai Smile Airways or Air Asia, you can always find the cheapest flight using the flight search engine Skyscanner.
With a private driver
From Phuket airport, the easiest way to get to Koh Kho Khao is by taxi or private driver. Since the taxi mafia in Phuket is notorious, we strongly recommend that you organize your transfer in advance. It is best to ask your hotel on Koh Kho Khao, they usually all organize a private transfer. Alternatively, you can pre-order a taxi yourself online.
We paid 2,000 baht each way for the private transfer. That’s about 50 euros, but we didn’t have to worry about anything. Incidentally, up to four people fit in a car. So if you are several, it will be cheaper per person.
The trip takes about two hours, including the boat crossing to the island and transportation on the island to the hotel. Incidentally, this was all included in the price.
On your own
In principle, it is also possible to drive to Koh Kho Khao on your own.
There are regular minibuses that will take you to Khao Lak first. From there you have to take a bus or taxi to the pier in Baan Nam Kaem.
The crossing to Koh Kho Khao by longtail boat costs only 20 baht per person and only takes a few minutes.
When you arrive on the island, pick-ups are waiting to take you to your hotel. Although the distances are not far, you have to expect prices of up to 300 baht here.
As I said, we definitely recommend that you take a private driver. In the end, it is not that much more expensive and it definitely saves time and nerves.

Sights and activities on Koh Kho Khao
It’s simple: Koh Kho Khao has nothing to offer. Absolutely nothing! The island is totally boring and that’s a good thing.
Koh Kho Khao is a place of absolute relaxation. The beaches are gorgeous. We would even go as far as to say that the island has one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand.
You can lie on the beach all day on the island and if that’s too boring you can walk along the beach. That’s it! Just do nothing and relax – that’s Koh Kho Khao!
If you get bored after a few days, the island is also a good starting point for excursions.
There are day trips to the nearby Khao Sok National Park or to the Similan Islands for diving and snorkeling are offered.

Our hotel tip: where is the best place to stay?
Fortunately, Koh Kho Khao has not yet been closed with hotel bunkers. Anyone who has ever been to Phuket or Khao Lak knows how terrible it is.
Nevertheless, there are a few hotels and resorts in all price categories on the island and we are now introducing them to you.
The C&N Kho Khao Beach Resort
We stayed at the C&N Kho Khao Beach Resort during our time on the island and it was just amazing. The hotel rating at booking.com of 9.4 says a lot and we were absolutely thrilled.
The hotel has 20 lovely bungalows, all of which have a direct sea view. There is a beautiful pool and the guests have the wonderful sandy beach at the hotel to themselves.
The hotel is a bit apart from all other facilities on the island. But that also means that there is no other restaurant within walking distance.
The hotel’s own restaurant is really very good and serves authentic Thai dishes and delicious fish. There were also a few western things.
The prices are of course a bit of a higher Thai standard, but perfectly okay for the quality offered. A main course costs between 3 and 7 euros.
As already mentioned, the hotel is perfect for those looking for peace and quiet. The audience consisted of 50+ couples and young families with children. We were the only young couple without children, but we felt very comfortable.
We will definitely come back here. The hotel is booked out very quickly. You should definitely book early. We stayed six nights in the hotel and would have liked to have extended by two more nights, but unfortunately there was nothing to be done at short notice.
A night at the C&N Kho Khao Beach Resort costs between 60 and 70 euros. For the performance offered, that’s perfectly fine!

More hotels on Koh Kho Khao
Overall, the selection of hotels on Koh Kho Khao is manageable. Nevertheless, there is the right accommodation on Koh Kho Khao for every budget, from very cheap to quite expensive.
Upscale accommodations
Probably the most luxurious accommodation on Koh Kho Khao are the Ataman Luxury Villas. Here you have your own little villa with a private pool and all the trimmings.
But it is also cheaper. The Anandah Beach Resort and the Paradis Villa B3 are priced roughly in the range of our hotel tip C&N Kho Khao Beach Resort. The luxury is not quite as excessive here, but both accommodations make a very good impression.
Cheap accommodation
Of course, if your budget isn’t that big, there are a few options too.
Probably the cheapest option right on the beach are the Pranee Beach Bungalows , in which you can live from around 25 euros per night.
The Roo Poo Guest House is even cheaper , but it is not directly on the beach, but near the pier.
Also recommended are the Cousin Koh Kho Khao Bungalow and the Hapla Beach Cottage. Both accommodations are also located directly on the beach and start at around 40 euros per night.

Our conclusion on Koh Kho Khao
We fell in love with the island straight away and will definitely be back. If you are looking for absolute peace and relaxation and are enthusiastic about dream beaches, then Koh Kho Khao is the optimal travel destination for you.
