The long-awaited research report on unacceptable behavior in gym sports, with gymnastics as the most eye-catching discipline, appears on Wednesday. The presentation can be followed from 09.50 am via a livestream on NOS.nl and in the NOS app.
Professor of sports and law Marjan Olfers has led the research in recent months, on behalf of the gymnastics association KNGU and with funding from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. The report should initiate a complete culture change within gym sports.
The reason for the broad research was the stream of stories from former top gymnasts, last summer, about physical and mental abuse by trainers that sometimes lasted for years.
Reactions in the studio
After the presentation of the report by Olfers, the KNGU will respond.
In the studio in Hilversum, presenter Jeroen Stomphorst then continues to talk with gymnastics commentator Edwin Cornelissen, GroenLinks MP Lisa Westerveld, who last year took the initiative for roundtable discussions in the Chamber about (in) safety in gymnastics, and former gymnast Stasja Köhler.
Gym clubs have already started making adjustments after all the revelations last summer. Among others at Turnz, where sustainable gymnastics is paramount.
