Purebred cats: Scottish fold
The Scottish fold is a purebred cat with roots in Scotland. This cat is best known for its folded ear cups. The auricles lie flat on the head. She is a nice cat to deal with and she comes in a variety of colors and color combinations. What kind of cat is the Scottish fold and why should the choice fall on this Scottish fold?
Scottish fold, the basis
This purebred cat, officially Scottish fold cat in Dutch, originated in Scotland. Here Susie, a farm cat, is at the base of this breed through a spontaneous mutation of the auricles. Several domestic and British Shorthair cats have been used to eventually become an officially registered breed, the main characteristic of which is the flat-lying ears. This happened in 1961. The breed is recognized in several countries, but not all countries officially recognize the breed. In the US, the umbrella pedigree cat organizations CFA, TICA, ACFA recognize the Scottish fold and in Canada it is the CCA. In Europe there is no recognition by the umbrella pedigree cat organization FIFe for the Scottish fold.
Genetic disorder problems
The Scottish fold regularly appears in the news. Regularly there are veterinarians who claim that the cat would be in pain due to the genetic abnormality of the cartilage. For that reason, the breeding of these cats should be banned in the Netherlands. It is true that it is a genetic abnormality, but the consequences have not been demonstrated in 2019. Incidentally, breeding this breed is prohibited in Germany.
What kind of cat is the Scottish fold, anyway?
The external characteristics of this cat often make the word “cute”. taken in the mouth. This is mainly due to the round head, the full cheeks and the flat-lying ears. This cat has a disarming head for many and this can be a reason for wanting this cat.
What other external characteristics does this cat have? The figure of this cat is robust and stocky. The cat is low on its sturdy legs. The massive build of the British Shorthair is still clearly visible in this cat. The cat is average in weight. Normally, a hangover should not weigh more than 6 kilograms.
The coat has a double structure and the hairs are soft, quite short and fine in texture. This means that the cat has to be combed a few times a week. Loose hairs can get stuck in the coat and by combing through the coat, you take these loose hairs with you and the cat does not swallow a lot of hair during washing.

Although the cat can be very sweet and affectionate towards humans, this cat also has something independent in it. She exchanges the playful character just as easily for a quiet moment on the scratching post or in the windowsill where she can oversee everything. She may even come across as an introvert to a stranger. Furthermore, like many cats, it is an extremely inquisitive and curious cat who wants to see the situation in peace. Although they play (with humans or animals) alternates with a quiet moment on the scratching post, on balance it is a cat that likes to have attention. However, this cat is not intrusive.
Why buy a Scottish fold?
Most people who choose this cat have three reasons, namely:

If you buy such a cat, you have to realize that those nice flat ears really are a genetic abnormality. What the future will bring with regard to this deviation and the variety in a general sense is not clear in 2019. The vets are not unanimous on this. Furthermore, it is a sweet, fun, cuddly and easy to keep cat.
