Rapper Lil Kleine is still in custody after he was arrested in Amsterdam yesterday. His lawyer Nienke Hoogervorst confirms this to the NOS.
A police spokesperson says a 27-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested yesterday on suspicion of assault and that he is still in custody because of the investigation. Lil Kleine’s lawyer does not want to say what her client is suspected of.
Meanwhile, several platforms have consequences attached to the suspicions against the artist. Streaming service Spotify has removed its songs from all playlists compiled by the company’s editors themselves, the head of Spotify Benelux confirms to ANP news agency. On Twitter, people are calling on Lil Kleine’s music to be banned from music platforms altogether, but Spotify does not want to go that far yet.
On radio station FunX, Lil Kleine cannot be heard for the time being. “Once again, news about an artist causes strong reactions from our audience. That is why we have decided, in consultation with the broadcasters, not to include Lil Kleine’s music in the playlists of NPO FunX for the time being,” says a spokesperson.
Other stations, such as 100% NL and Qmusic, say that Lil Kleine is not in the playlists of the radio stations. Banning his music is therefore out of the question. The same applies to Talpa’s radio brands, such as Radio Veronica, Sky Radio and 538.
Yesterday, the police received a report of an assault on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. Images of the assault have been posted online on social media. It would show how Jorik Scholten, the real name of Lil Kleine, pulls his girlfriend Jaimie Vaes out of a car and abuses it.
Scholten’s management late Show news know to have seen the images, which were distributed through Yvonne Coldeweijer’s gossip channel. “Jaimie and Jorik’s management is in close contact with both and will provide a further statement at a later date. No comment will be made until further notice. For now, we ask that the family leave it alone.”
It is not yet clear when Lil Kleine or the management will come out with a statement, says lawyer Hoogervorst.
Bloody and wounded
Last year, Scholten also became discredited, because he allegedly abused his girlfriend. Eyewitnesses told De Telegraaf that Jaimie ran into the lobby of the hotel where the couple was staying, bloodied, injured and with torn clothes. Lil Kleine was then arrested on suspicion of assault. In a video, the couple then denied that Jaimie had been assaulted.
Last Friday, Scholten was sentenced to 120 hours of community service for an assault in 2019. The victim was a 28-year-old visitor to the Oliva club on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. The judge spoke of senseless nightlife violence. According to Het Parool, the rapper will appeal against that sentence.
