The character
The Puggle is a lively, enthusiastic and intelligent dog who likes to go for a walk, play outside and also enjoy mental challenge. It is no problem if he gets less exercise for a day. This dog likes to be around people and loves attention. Do not leave him alone for too long or he will languish and show problem behavior. A Puggle is sweet with children, enthusiastically greets strangers, and is social towards other dogs and pets. In general, the Puggle doesn’t bark much. He makes himself heard when there are strange noises and when visitors arrive.
A Puggle’s approach
A Puggle can be stubborn and should be steered in the right direction with a lot of patience, a positive approach, and a consistent approach. The dog does not respond to a heavy-handed approach, it is already responding to the tone of your voice. Toilet training can cause problems. It is important to let him out every hour for the first time. It is not necessary to go for a walk, the dog only has to do its business. Give him enough time for that too and reward him when he has done something.
The care
The Puggle’s short coat requires little grooming. Brushing now and then is sufficient. The wrinkles in the coat and ears must be kept clean. Skin infections easily develop in these wrinkles. Because the eyes protrude a bit, they are sensitive to drying out and eye infections.
Dogs with a short muzzle
Dogs with a short muzzle are more likely to suffer from breathing problems. Anything in a normal length muzzle is crammed closer together in short muzzle dogs. They have to make more effort to breathe and take in less air and oxygen. Often these dogs snore while breathing and this can indicate breathlessness.
How can you prevent or limit shortness of breath?
It is important to prevent overweight with these dogs because this worsens the complaints. The shortness of breath also worsens during stress and on hot and humid days. Then leave the dog alone and provide a cool place.
