102 victims report losses over 18 million at Samut Prakan police

More than 102 victims of the D.I. Group have begun filing complaints at the Samut Prakan police station, reporting total damages exceeding 18 million baht, with many expressing hope of recovering their funds.

Following the order from Police Chief General Kittirat Phanpetch, all police stations in Thailand were instructed to accept complaints from individuals affected by the D.I. Group’s case, providing assistance to affected citizens nationwide. As of 4:30 PM on October 18, 2024, victims, including 49-year-old Piti Phat Wongsoom and 32-year-old Piramnya Kumphai, presented their evidence and financial documents related to the group to the police, who guided them on the process for filing criminal charges against involved parties. Currently, over 102 reports have been submitted with total damages reaching 18 million baht.

Piramnya, a state enterprise employee, recounted her involvement with the D.I. Group, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when she sought extra income. She saw an advertisement on social media about inexpensive online courses on content creation and advertising for just 29 baht, which piqued her interest. Although she initially succeeded in the program, it later turned into a push for product sales, particularly collagen and coffee, leading her to spend 24,000 baht on stocks to distribute and sell. After two years, the profits did not match the promises made in the advertisements, leading her to discover more concerning the D.I. Group’s situation in the news.

Piti Phat Wongsoom shared her experience of being lured by D.I. Group through a TV ad promoting a 95 baht video making course. She was invited to online training sessions and was later encouraged to invest money, resulting in her borrowing over 300,000 baht from a cooperative to open a new account, driven by the group’s claims of significant profits and legacy for her children. Unfortunately, the overpriced products failed to sell, and she was eventually left with expired inventory leading to substantial financial loss and large debts. Piti expressed feelings of despair, contemplating suicide but found support from colleagues and friends. She decided to file a complaint in hopes of recovering her losses, acknowledging it as the most costly lesson of her life about business.
