The Deputy Spokesperson of the Department of Corrections reported on the first night in detention for 17 suspects from the iCon Group case. After being taken into custody on October 17, health checks and processing procedures were conducted. The detainees were placed in a COVID-19 quarantine unit for five days.
Out of the 17 detainees, five have minor pre-existing health conditions, including one with high blood pressure. Some detainees requested to bring in their medications. However, the three high-profile detainees, including “Min,” were reportedly in good health. Meals served were left uneaten due to the late hour of arrival.
The detainees were allowed to sleep together in the quarantine area, fostering supportive feelings among themselves. They showed visible stress, with little conversation and no smiles. The adjustment to their new environment appeared to be challenging.
Regarding haircuts, male detainees must have their hair cut short, while female detainees can tie their hair up and trim it for hygiene. The detainees were able to shower and had breakfast the following morning, during which they inquired about visitation rights and legal consultation processes.
Legal representatives may visit via video call while the detainees are in quarantine, and after the quarantine, they will be moved to designated areas within the detention facilities. Throughout the pre-trial period, detainees will not be required to partake in work duties to focus on their legal cases.
