Businessman kills partner and himself over debt in office shooting

The police are investigating a shocking incident involving a developer who shot his business partner before taking his own life in the sales office, reportedly due to financial debts. The suspect, Supachai Panya-thep, 55, had previously had disputes with Kanokwun Jumpsuppaisan, 54, over money he owed her. The events unfolded on the evening of October 2 when Supachai entered the office, instructed the staff to leave, and a conversation ensued that ultimately led to the fatal shooting with a 9mm firearm.

Supachai, a former chair of the local police committee and owner of the Ratirat housing project in Nonthaburi, reportedly shot Kanokwun before turning the gun on himself. The police received reports of the shooting at around 6 PM and found both individuals deceased in the office. Initial reports suggest that Supachai’s financial troubles, which included several bounce checks worth hundreds of thousands of baht, may have contributed to his mental state leading to the tragic event.

On October 3, investigators announced they were gathering witness testimonies from employees and friends of the deceased. While criminal proceedings will be initiated, the fact that the suspect has died complicates matters for the investigation; they will need to establish that Supachai committed the act before his suicide. Evidence found at the scene included the firearm and shell casings, as well as the bodies positioned at the crime scene.

Witnesses reported hearing two gunshots and initially mistook the sounds for something else before realizing the gravity of the situation. A niece of the deceased suggested financial disagreements as the catalyst for the shooting, indicating prior disputes between Supachai and Kanokwun related to money owed.
