A 62-year-old man lost control and shot a couple, fatally wounding them in a market in Chana, Thailand, following a dispute over selling space. After the incident, he waited for police to arrive and surrender.
On September 23, 2024, Police Major Rathasak Tienwun was notified of a violent confrontation along a street in the town, where a gunfight had occurred outside a jewelry store. Upon arrival, authorities found two victims: a 64-year-old woman, Siti Asem Ahman, who was shot and stabbed multiple times, and her husband, 44-year-old Adenun Musao, who succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.
At the scene, investigators discovered the couple’s old red pickup, which they used to sell langsat and sugar palms. The shooter, identified as Huan Saetarn, was found at the scene with a .38 caliber firearm and a machete. He cooperated with authorities and was immediately taken in for questioning.
Initial investigations revealed that Huan was a regular seller in the area, but the couple began parking their vehicle in his selling spot. A confrontation escalated into Huan drawing his weapon and firing six shots at the couple, followed by several stabbings of the woman.
Huan claimed that the couple repeatedly challenged his ownership of the spot, asserting that they had arrived first. After several disputes, he lost his temper and committed the violence. He voluntarily surrendered to police after the shooting.
Huan’s relatives stated that he had not been well but continued selling fruits; however, he felt provoked by the couple taking over his usual selling place, which contributed to his anger.
The police are currently conducting further investigations and preparing to file charges against Huan for the offense.
