Announcement extends security law for another year in 19 districts

The Royal Gazette announced the extension of the internal security law in 19 districts across 4 southern provinces from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2028.

On September 26, 2024, the Royal Gazette published four announcements signifying the areas affected by internal security issues, signed by Prime Minister Paethongthar Shinawatra, dated September 25, 2024. The proclamation highlights ongoing security concerns in several districts of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Songkhla, which are marked by occurrences of violence.

The announcement asserts the need for continued protective measures in these regions to prevent escalation of violence and to maintain order effectively, allowing authorities to address issues swiftly to safeguard national stability.

Following a Cabinet decision on September 24, 2024, specific directives were issued:

1. Designate the regions of Yingo, Su-ngai Kolok, Waeng, and Sukirin in Narathiwat; Yaring, Panare, Mayo, Mai Khaen, Thung Yang Daeng, Kapho, and Mae Lan in Pattani; Betong, Raman, Kabang, and Krong Pinang in Yala; and Na Thawi, Chana, Thepa, and Sabayoi in Songkhla as areas of internal security concern.

2. The Internal Security Operations Command will oversee measures to mitigate and control security incidents and will create an integrated action plan for relevant governmental agencies.

3. Previous regulations and orders remain in effect until further notice, with an emphasis on continuity in implementing security strategies.

The measures will be applied from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2028. Additionally, the Royal Gazette announced specific decrees aimed at ensuring the efficiency and order of operations in designated areas, including restrictions on movement and the prohibition of weapons outside residences.

These measures aim to maintain order and protect citizens’ safety while allowing for the effective enforcement of security protocols in the affected provinces.

The Prime Minister officially signed the announcement on September 25, 2024.
