Arrest of former special ops officer for stealing over 10 million

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has apprehended a former special operations officer, identified as Mr. Pornchai, aged 36, for allegedly embezzling over 10 million baht in state funds. He was captured on October 12, 2024, during a police operation in Nong Khai, after evading authorities since August 19, 2024.

The individual was charged with theft during nighttime, breaking into a government facility, and accessing protected computer data. The investigation revealed that he used his position to withdraw large sums of money each month for personal use, totaling about 2 to 4 million baht, which was discovered missing over a period.

In July 2024, the embezzlement came to light when over 10 million baht was reported missing. Prior to his escape, Mr. Pornchai allegedly broke into the prison director’s office and took hardware related to financial transactions.

Following a tip-off, the CIB tracked Mr. Pornchai using advanced investigative techniques and big data, revealing that he frequently changed his phone numbers and used over ten fictitious accounts to avoid detection. He attempted to flee to Laos but was caught while meeting his wife at a market in Nong Khai.

Upon arrest, Mr. Pornchai denied all allegations and resisted providing information. He was subsequently handed over to local authorities for legal proceedings.
