Arrested: Ex-boxer Santi captured at Korat checkpoint

The police in Nakhon Ratchasima successfully apprehended Santi, a 39-year-old former Muay Thai boxer, while he attempted to flee in a taxi. He was found to be in possession of two firearms.

On October 7, 2024, Police Chief General Kittirat Phanpetch ordered an operation led by several high-ranking officers to locate Santi, who was wanted for theft and had previously engaged in a shootout with the police on October 3, leading to his escape.

Following investigations, the police learned that Santi was attempting to flee to Amnat Charoen province. They set up a checkpoint in Phoklang where they intercepted a suspicious taxi. Santi attempted to escape but was eventually caught after falling and injuring himself. He was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. During the search, two firearms were discovered.

The police tracked Santi’s movements after the initial shootout. They established that he fled along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, met friends to retrieve cash, and was subsequently spotted on surveillance cameras at various locations until he attempted to evade capture by disguising himself. The police, anticipating his flight to Amnat Charoen, successfully coordinated with local police to set up the intercept.

Santi now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, illegal possession of firearms, and resisting arrest.
