Local villagers discovered the body of a forestry officer floating in the sea near the beach of Koh Kham, located in the Khao Laem Ya-Mu Ko Samet National Park in Rayong province. Authorities are investigating the cause of death.
On September 24, Investigating Officer Lt. Nontanatda Chomchuen received a report about a dead body found in the sea off Koh Kham. He subsequently notified his superiors and coordinated with relevant agencies to conduct an investigation.
At the scene, officials found the body of a man, identified as 47-year-old Surajit Ruennruam, face down in the water, wearing only shorts. There were no visible injuries, and it was estimated that he had been dead for at least two hours.
Investigations revealed that Surajit was a forestry officer responsible for Koh Kham and was known to be cheerful. At the time of the incident, he was not on duty, and authorities believe he may have fainted or slipped into the water unnoticed until his body was washed ashore by waves, eventually being discovered by local residents.
Authorities plan to question Surajit’s wife and colleagues on Koh Kham, as well as review CCTV footage on the island to ascertain the cause of his drowning. The body has been sent for autopsy at Rayong Hospital, and arrangements will be made for his family to claim the body for traditional funerary practices.
