Bombings in Sungai Padi injure 8 soldiers and police officers

In Narathiwat, southern Thailand, militants detonated four bombs across three locations in Su-ngai Padi, targeting utility poles and hidden explosives near roads, resulting in injuries to eight soldiers and police. Authorities are cautious in planning response operations due to fears of ambushes.

The first incidents occurred at 6:09 AM on October 18, 2024, when authorities confirmed bomb blasts at utility poles along Highway 4056 near a sharp curve. Further support was requested for bomb disposal teams as the situation developed.

At 7:39 AM, a third blast occurred at a bridge in the area, injuring five soldiers who reported minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The injured personnel included personnel aged 30 to 43. Damage occurred to a private vehicle, which the soldiers used during their day off.

At 9:55 AM, a fourth explosion was reported near a tree, targeting vehicles from the bomb disposal unit and resulting in three more injuries among the personnel.

In total, the incidents resulted in eight injuries, including serious personnel injuries that required immediate medical attention.

Local police and security officials held a coordination meeting to establish safety protocols and strategies for examining the areas of the explosions due to concerns of further attacks.

Updates on the investigation and additional safety measures will be provided in future reports.
