A 73-year-old woman was murdered in her home during a burglary early in the morning. A neighbor, who invited her to a prayer session, found her lifeless body after receiving no response. The police later apprehended the suspect hiding in a canal, who confessed to entering the house with the intent to steal. When the victim woke up, he assaulted her, causing her death, and stole just 1,400 baht and a mobile phone.

The incident occurred on September 23 at around 6:30 AM in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, where police discovered the body of Ms. Jira Mangkonphan. The victim was found face down with head injuries and signs of a struggle in the home. The medical examiner estimated she had been dead for about 3-5 hours.

According to her daughter, Arisa, who lived away and rushed home upon hearing the news, the victim lived alone. Neighbors reported having heard suspicious noises around 3 AM but did not pay much attention. When a neighbor checked on her around 5 AM, they found the home locked and no response, leading them to force entry where they found the deceased.

Further investigations led to the arrest of 44-year-old Olan Wongsaroj, who confessed to the crime. He had seen the elderly woman living alone and planned the robbery. After the incident, he yielded merely 1,400 baht and a mobile phone. Olan had a criminal history, including past robbery and drug-related charges, and was released from prison only two years prior to this murder.
