Businesswoman bitten by snake in cinema in Bangkok, offered low compensation

A 27-year-old entrepreneur claimed she was bitten by a snake while watching a movie with her family at a popular cinema in Rama 2 area. She incurred treatment costs of 25,000 baht, while the cinema offered a compensation of only 6,990 baht.

The incident occurred on July 31 at about 5:00 PM. After feeling something slither on her foot in flip-flops, she was bitten and screamed in shock. Initially treated outside the cinema, she later went to a hospital in Samut Sakhon where she received a tetanus shot but no antidote for snake venom as the type of snake was unknown. After returning from the hospital, she reported the incident to the police, who advised her to settle it directly with the cinema first.

The victim stated that cinema staff doubted it was a snake bite, suggesting it might have been a rat instead. However, medical opinions indicated it could have been a venomous snake. She insisted on receiving compensation for her 25,000 baht medical expenses but was told to initially pay out of pocket and submit receipts later. After some delay, the cinema proposed a compensation of only 6,990 baht, which she refused, insisting on greater accountability from the cinema.

Mr. Ekkapop, an advisor to the Ministry of Interior, mentioned he would coordinate with the local police to investigate the case further, emphasizing that it should be treated as a criminal matter. He stressed that the cinema, as a public place, should have higher safety measures to prevent such incidents.
