Caught stealing a motorcycle to sell online, extensive record

A young man was caught stealing a “motorcycle” with plans to sell it online. He has a criminal history with three prior cases in the area. Authorities warn the public to be cautious when parking their motorcycles.

On October 19, 2024, Pol. Col. Krithong Chaising, the police chief of Mahasarakham City, announced the arrest of 23-year-old Suphawan Phusidin from Kalsin District. He was apprehended while attempting to steal a black-gray Honda Wave 110i motorcycle in front of Wat Aphisit on Chaeng Sanit Road. The police reported other theft incidents involving motorcycles in the region.

Pol. Col. Krithong stated that police received a report from two men, Phanumart Gongrath and Jakkrang Ornthai, who spotted Suphawan wearing a long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt and a mask while stealing their motorcycle parked outside the temple. Officers found Suphawan near the motorcycle with the engine running.

Phanumart, the motorcycle owner, confirmed he had secured and removed the key before stepping away for work, only to return and find Suphawan sitting on his motorcycle, which had moved about two meters from its original spot. He and Jakkrang restrained Suphawan until police arrived, discovering signs of forced entry and damage to the ignition.

Investigation revealed Suphawan’s involvement in three theft cases across different police stations, showcasing a pattern of motorcycle thefts. With a methodical approach, he concealed his identity with a hoodie and mask.

Authorities suspect he has stolen multiple motorcycles in Mahasarakham, photographing them to sell online for over 10,000 baht each, with dealers picking them up afterward. They advise the public to be vigilant with their parked motorcycles, especially given the ongoing theft surge. Anyone who has lost a motorcycle matching the description can report to the Mahasarakham City police.
