Chiang Mai monitors Ping River at 3.9 meters tonight

Chiang Mai officials are monitoring the Ping River, anticipating it will reach a peak of 3.9 meters tonight around 1 AM. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to move to higher ground.

As of 1:30 PM today (September 24, 2024), water levels at the Nakhon Bridge in Chiang Mai stood at 3.50 meters, with anticipation of reaching critical levels of 3.70 meters and a maximum of 3.90 meters by September 25 from 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM. Awareness and preparation for rising waters along the Ping River is urged.

The Mayor of Chiang Mai has announced that residents near the Ping River in various zones need to prepare for potential flooding. This includes areas such as Pa Phrao Nok, Wang Pla restaurant, and Monfort School, among others.

Furthermore, the provincial disaster prevention office highlighted that agencies have time to prepare for flooding from nearby mountains before it reaches the city. Plans are in place to evacuate vulnerable groups such as the elderly, infirm, and children, as well as to provide food for displaced individuals. Provided no additional rain occurs tonight, water levels are expected to normalize within 1-2 days.
