Chiang Mai train station experiences flooding but remains open

Workers Confirm that Chiang Mai Railway Station is operational despite some flooding in certain areas. Water levels have risen in the surrounding railway community and in front of the Kawila Camp.

As of 5:00 AM on September 26, 2024, reports indicate flooding in Chiang Mai, especially concerning the Ping River, which has submerged parts of the economic district, including the Night Bazaar and Chang Klan Road, rendering some roads impassable for vehicles.

Near the railway station leading to the Nawarat Bridge, water levels have reached knee-deep, making it impossible for small vehicles to navigate. Only larger, higher vehicles can travel through due to rising waters.

According to Anon Aranyakanant, the train driver for the first train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, although water has surrounded the station and flooded the tracks slightly, operations remain unaffected as the water does not exceed 15 centimeters. Both air-conditioned and regular trains continue to transport passengers as scheduled.

Passengers traveling to Bangkok are encouraged to use train services throughout the day, noting that it is safer compared to driving, given the slippery roads and potential for delays due to rain. Despite the flooding at the station, tuk-tuks and red buses can drop passengers off without changes to the train schedule.

Furthermore, this morning, water has reached high levels in the surrounding railway community and the Kawila Camp area, submerging parts of the hospital. Nearby food outlets and convenience stores have responded by stacking sandbags to block the incoming water.
