A group of Chinese criminals used a scheme involving exchanging digital currency for Thai baht to deceive two fellow Chinese nationals into preparing 3 million baht. Subsequently, the gang abducted them and extorted an additional 270,000 USD, totaling 4 million baht during this incident. The police in Sutthisan are now pursuing the gang for prosecution.
On October 20, at 10 PM, two victims, known as Mr. A (30) and Mr. B (35), reported the crime to police. The robbery occurred on October 19 around 4 PM at their workplace in Ratchada. They were held at gunpoint by five armed men, two of whom were Chinese and three were Myanmar nationals, who demanded cash in both Thai baht and USD. The victims initially handed over 3.2 million baht but were forced to provide an additional 270,000 USD, which they had to borrow from relatives. The robbers then released them in Bang Khen the following day after destroying their phone’s SIM card.
Updates from Sutthisan police on October 21 indicated that the victims were legitimate business operators dealing with accommodations for other Chinese nationals in Thailand. They had arranged to exchange cryptocurrency when the assailants entered their office under false pretenses and demanded cash. Investigations revealed the assailants used fake vehicle license plates. While the identity of the gang members remains uncertain, communication suggests they are primarily Chinese. Authorities are currently examining the situation closely and are tracking the gang’s movements, as the suspects have escaped in different vehicles, complicating the pursuit.
