The Thanyaburi Provincial Court has denied bail to “Saman,” the driver of a school bus involved in a fire incident that resulted in injuries and fatalities among students and teachers from Wat Khao Phra Yang Sangharam School in Uthai Thani. The court expressed concern that the defendant may flee, as he was not present at the scene immediately after the incident to provide assistance.
The fire occurred around noon on October 1, 2024, on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, resulting in casualties among the children who were unable to help themselves. Subsequently, on October 2, Saman was brought to court to face multiple charges, including reckless driving causing death and injuries, and failing to assist at the scene. The police opposed bail, and the court accepted the request for detention.
Saman’s relatives and legal representatives petitioned for temporary release, but the court denied this request, citing the severity of the case and the risk of the defendant evading justice, given that he had not cooperated with authorities after the incident. Victims’ families and law enforcement opposed his release as well.
