Court fines “angry rider” for punching police during bus escort

“Nonthaburi District Court” has fined an “angry rider” for punching a police officer who was leading a school bus convoy, and ordered him to pay damages of 40,000 baht.

The incident involved Police Sergeant Wirodom Najabutr, who reported that 28-year-old delivery rider Sahapap Morawan followed him and assaulted him after becoming upset that Wirodom had blocked the road with a police vehicle to allow a school bus convoy to pass, causing Sahapap’s motorcycle to tip over. This occurred at approximately 15:30 on October 2, near the entrance of a well-known high school in Nonthaburi.

On October 8, 2024, the investigating officer brought Sahapap to the Nonthaburi District Attorney’s office, where he confessed to the assault. The court fined him 2,000 baht and suspended a one-year prison sentence. Additionally, due to the case, the injured officer, Wirodom, claimed damages, leading the court to order Sahapap to compensate him 40,000 baht, to be paid in installments of 5,000 baht per month.
