Cyber police raid three sites, arrest suppliers for Chinese call center

Cyber police conducted a raid in Sa Kaeo, arresting a couple who were suppliers providing fraudulent accounts to a Chinese call center. This action follows a tragic incident where a female masseuse was tricked into investing and later died from stress-related circumstances.

On October 12, 2024, senior police officials ordered the operation after obtaining search warrants for three locations in Sa Kaeo. The first raid targeted a residence in Aranyaprathet, arresting two individuals wanted for fraud.

The second location also in Aranyaprathet resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects, while the third raid in Watthana Nakhon led to one more arrest. In total, six suspects linked to the fraudulent activities were apprehended under charges of cheating the public.

The investigation was prompted by the death of a 28-year-old masseuse from the Nakhon Phanom province who was deceived into investing by a call center gang. After losing over 338,000 Baht in a series of transfers, she tragically took her own life.

Police found that the locations raided were part of a larger operation involving multiple roles, where individuals were recruited to open fraudulent accounts. The accounts would then be used for financial crimes, often targeting other unsuspecting victims.

Authorities discovered the group’s organized structure, which included suppliers who would set up the accounts, and brokers who facilitated this process with a commission structure based on the number of accounts opened.

In total, 10 arrest warrants have been issued related to this fraudulent network, with nine suspects already captured, while further investigations continue to pursue the remaining suspect.

Officials emphasized the importance of dismantling this network to prevent further harm to the public and the country’s security.
