The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior is closely monitoring the water drainage situation in “Lampang,” anticipating impacts on the first area, “Jae Hom.” Floodwaters are expected to reach “Kiu Lom Dam” within the next 12 hours.
On September 24, Mr. Suthipong Juljaroen reported that heavy rainfall has caused water levels in the Kiu Khor Ma Dam in Jae Hom district, Lampang province, to exceed 103% of its maximum capacity. Consequently, water discharge must increase from level 2 (150 cubic meters per second) to level 3 (250 cubic meters per second), pending approval from the central subcommittee. This operation was set to commence at 10:00 AM today, potentially affecting residents in Jae Hom first, with floodwaters expected to reach Kiu Lom Dam in the city of Lampang in about 12 hours. Currently, Kiu Lom Dam holds approximately 80% of its total capacity, necessitating another increase in discharge from level 2 (220 cubic meters per second) to level 3 (320 cubic meters per second), with water projected to travel to the city within approximately 6 hours, and discharge planned at 8:00 PM.
Lampang province has convened relevant agencies to share the current situation, prepare areas for potential flooding, and notify residents to move belongings to higher ground as water levels are expected to rise due to increased discharge.
Moreover, if flooding occurs, Lampang province will declare a disaster area and coordinate aid according to relevant regulations. Citizens facing emergencies can report issues and request assistance via the Line app (DOPA hotline 1784) or the Ministry of Interior’s call center (1567) available 24/7.
