“Di Icon Group Clinic closes, demands Dr. Ek to appear”

The Thai Ministry of Public Health is investigating “The Icon Group” clinic following allegations against its director, Dr. Thanakrit Jitrariyat, also known as “Boss Doctor Ek”, who is accused of impersonating a medical professional. If he fails to comply, authorities will proceed with a summons and potentially an arrest warrant.

On October 16, 2024, a team led by Dr. Thanakrit and officials from various health departments inspected The Icon Wellness clinic in Bangkok to check compliance with medical standards. The investigation revealed that the clinic was closed but had many clients seeking assistance due to investment issues.

The location also serves as the headquarters for The Icon Group, which houses multiple facilities like cafes, gyms, and a beauty clinic, all identifiable by a consistent company logo and surveillance cameras.

Dr. Thanakrit stated that a complaint was filed against Dr. Thananan Hiranchaiworn for allegedly acting as a doctor, following reports of him treating multiple patients. Although the clinic was closed during the inspection, the team is prepared to return for further evaluation of the clinic’s practices and medical standards.

He urged “Boss Doctor Ek” to identify himself to confirm his medical qualifications as social media followers mistakenly believe he’s a licensed physician. It is emphasized that individuals falsely claiming to be doctors face severe legal consequences.

In support, another official clarified that verification of a doctor’s registration can easily be checked online; failure to appear on the registry indicates illegal practice, which can lead to up to three years in prison or substantial fines. Facilities cannot operate with unlicensed professionals.

While the examined clinic is registered legally for general medical treatment, further inspections are needed to confirm adherence to medical standards and proper staffing. Business operators must be over 20 years old, reside in Thailand, and adhere to legal guidelines to establish clinics, ensuring that only licensed practitioners oversee medical services.
