A deaf and mute rider, along with his 70-year-old mother, is seeking justice after a female passenger accused him of scaring her by allegedly taking a wrong route during a ride.
On October 9, 2024, at Huai Khwang Police Station, Ms. Thong Muan, 70, and her 45-year-old son, who works at a hotel and also rides for a ride-hailing service, explained their plight to the media. The incident occurred on the morning of October 8, when the son accepted a ride request from a female passenger. After picking her up in Sukhumvit, he mistakenly took the wrong route and had to make a U-turn.
The female passenger later reported to the police, claiming she felt threatened and scared that the rider was taking her off course, alleging he circled the area twice. However, CCTV footage revealed that the rider only went around once.
At the police station, the mother expressed concern for her son, highlighting that despite his disabilities, he supports 14 family members through his job. The incident has left him deeply affected and confused, prompting the mother to call for media assistance for justice.
The son communicated through sign language, stating he felt unfairly treated and emphasized that he had no ill intentions. He mentioned that the female passenger seemed to smell of alcohol but could not confirm if she was intoxicated. He was forced to stop due to traffic hazards before she exited the vehicle abruptly.
The police clarified they would treat both parties fairly and are reviewing the CCTV footage from both perspectives to uncover the true intent of the incident. They will also seek help from social services and other relevant agencies for further investigation.
Updates on the situation will be provided as information becomes available.
