Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol announced that the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture is launching the “Cultural Plaza for Happiness” project, showcasing contemporary sculptures at the National Gallery. This exhibition features prominent artworks created by internationally recognized contemporary artists and an impressive collection of oversized sculptures, some previously displayed abroad. The event will take place from September 24 to November 20, aiming to establish a new landmark for contemporary art in the heart of Bangkok.
The Minister highlighted key pieces on display, such as the “Liminal Space” glass sculpture by Sinthath Praditthasak, a wind-blown pagoda representing the history of the Yuans who migrated from Chiang Saen, and works depicting the intelligence of the Thai dog breed by artists from the ‘Bannok’ collective. Other notable artworks include “Dragonerpanzer,” a tank designed with shattered porcelain patterns reflecting historical events, and a large fiberglass sculpture titled “DOLLAR 009,” which represents humanity’s adaptability to global changes.
Additionally, there is an exhibition titled “Cloud: Mist and Fog” curated by Kritsada Dusadeewanich, exploring contemporary artistic dialogues, featuring pieces like the large fiberglass sculpture “Yellow Simple” and “Equity: Thai Soldiers (6 Principles)” by Sutee Kunavichayanont among others.
