Drunken political debate leads to shooting, 1 dead, 1 injured

A late-night drinking session escalated into violence when a political argument led to a shooting incident, resulting in one death and one injury. The suspect, 44-year-old Chaiyong Boongkong, used a 9mm firearm following a heated debate with friends about political parties. After the shooting, he fled the scene on a motorcycle. Phetchaburi police have since issued an arrest warrant on five serious charges against the shooter, who plans to surrender next week. The victim’s family is determined to fight against any bail for the suspect, citing concerns of further conflict.

On the night of September 27, police were called to Maepatiew Noodle Shop, where they found two men shot in front of the establishment. One victim named Kongsak Chua Chooklin, 57, succumbed to his injuries, while the other, Prayuth Phosum, 42, was critically injured. Investigations revealed that the shooter engaged in political discussions with the victims before becoming enraged and firing shots.

During questioning, it was confirmed that after Mr. Chaiyong joined the drinking group, he grew upset with differing political opinions and shot Kongsak before attempting to shoot Prayuth. He fled after the incident, prompting police action to locate him.

Relatives of the deceased expressed grief over the incident and vowed to pursue justice, stating they wouldn’t allow any leniency in legal proceedings against the alleged shooter.
