Gan Jompalang leads over 200 victims to sue “The Icon”

On October 20, 2024, over 200 victims led by Kan Chompol, along with Deputy Health Minister Dr. Thanakrit Jitraareerat, approached the Lawyers Council to file a civil lawsuit against The Icon Group.

At 3 PM, the group met with Secretary-General Sunthorn Payak to discuss the civil case after criminal allegations had already been filed with the police. Many victims were unsure about how to pursue their civil claims, so the Lawyers Council offered assistance to navigate this process.

Dr. Thanakrit noted that following the complaint filed against the responsible parties, the Department of Special Investigation expedited asset seizures and would collaborate with the Anti-Money Laundering Office to maximize compensation for the victims. The Lawyers Council is also supporting the victims by facilitating group lawsuits at no charge.

The Lawyers Council confirmed that civil lawsuits would be processed without any fees, and their offices are available in every province. Victims can visit local Councils to file their complaints.

Furthermore, Vice President of Technology and Information, Weerasak Chotiwanit, highlighted that there are over 10,000 trained pro bono lawyers ready to assist victims at no cost. Those who already have legal representation are encouraged to continue with their current lawyers.

The Lawyers Council has a nationwide network with central oversight and regional committees. Detailed documentation is required from the victims to support their claims, including information on their relationship with the business and the extent of their losses. This data will aid in filing both civil and criminal complaints effectively.
