“Gunfire erupts at Kathu police station during love triangle dispute”

Phuket – A meeting to resolve a love triangle ended tragically when a man was shot outside Kathu Police Station. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Suwit Nokkaew, attempted to escape after being shot but collapsed at the police station entrance.

On October 13, 2024, authorities were alerted to a shooting incident on Vichit Songkram Road, leading to the discovery of Suwit’s body with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police promptly pursued the shooter, identified as 32-year-old Thitipong Tongyung, who fled the scene in a white car.

Thitipong was detained shortly thereafter while attempting to evade capture near Kathu Waterfall, where officers arrested him along with the firearm used in the shooting, a 9 mm CZ semi-automatic pistol.

Initial investigations revealed that Suwit and Thitipong had arranged to confront each other regarding a love affair involving Thitipong’s relationship with Suwit’s girlfriend. When negotiations failed, Thitipong drew his gun and shot Suwit twice, prompting Suwit to flee before succumbing to his injuries.

Police confirmed that the motive behind the shooting was personal, linked to romantic tensions between the involved parties. Thitipong has been taken into custody and is being questioned at Kathu Police Station.
