Icon Chiang Mai scam: Over 50 victims report losses of 10M THB

In Chiang Mai, victims of the “The Icon” case have rushed to file complaints, with more than 50 reports lodged, amounting to approximately 10 million baht in damages. The police chief of Chiang Mai is actively overseeing the investigation.

On October 16, 2024, at Chiang Mai City Police Station, Police Major General Thawatchai Pongwiwatchai conducted a follow-up on the case and inquired about the complaints from victims. It was noted that there were 12 complaints filed in person, with 4 submitted online. Investigators are scheduling interrogations with victims, as directed by National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanpetch, who has ordered all police stations to facilitate the filing of these complaints.

Police Major General Thawatchai confirmed that there are over 50 reported victims in total across different stations: 12 at the City Police, 15 at Mae Ping Police, and 8 at Chang Phuek Police, with additional reports scattered among other stations, amounting to over 10 million baht in damages.

An investigation into the payment transfers revealed three main methods: through team leaders, direct payments to The Icon company, and credit card transactions from victims. The extent of losses varies among individuals. Police are following up on 20 specific points as mandated by the National Police Office.

If victims have sufficient evidence, questioning will proceed immediately; otherwise, they are advised to prepare additional evidence. Currently, 50% of the interrogations have been completed.
