The Chief Doctor of the Police Hospital has instructed the Institute of Forensic Medicine to prepare for the identification of the deceased individuals from a tragic bus fire accident that injured and killed students and teachers from a field trip in Uthai Thani province.
The incident occurred on October 2, 2024, resulting in a total of 23 victims: 14 boys, 6 girls, and 3 adults. The police have been gradually bringing the bodies in for identification. The Chief Doctor, Pol. Lt. Gen. Thavisin Wechwitaran, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and highlighted the importance of supporting their mental health.
The forensic identification process, which includes relationship assessments among family members, is expected to take no longer than 7 days before the bodies can be returned to their families. Additional facilities are being prepared for the psychological support of the injured and relatives affected by the tragedy, with four rooms reserved for those experiencing mental health issues.
A mental health support team is collaborating with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health to provide care for those affected. Additionally, a mental health center is being established on the third floor of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where consultations will be provided, including a hotline service through “Depress We Care” for ongoing support.
