Lam Pao Dam increases water discharge; agricultural areas flooded

The “Lam Pao Dam” has announced an increase in water discharge to manage the water level, which is approaching full capacity. Recent heavy rainfall has caused water from the Pa River to overflow and flood agricultural areas.

According to reports from Mr. Samruay Inpitak, the director of the Lam Pao water supply and maintenance project, the dam has received substantial inflow due to the influence of a monsoon trough and a low-pressure area. From September 20-24, 2024, there have been 255 million cubic meters of water entering the reservoir and this trend continues.

As of September 25, 2024, the water level in Lam Pao reservoir reached 1,20245.29 million cubic meters, which is 84.61% of its normal capacity (1,980 million cubic meters) and 0.23 meters below the maximum control level, equating to 63.31 million cubic meters.

To control the water volume according to reservoir management criteria and to allow space for incoming rainfall, the Lam Pao project will increase the water discharge from 5 million cubic meters per day to a maximum of 10 million cubic meters starting September 28, 2024, ensuring minimal impact on both upstream and downstream areas. The public can follow updates via the Lam Pao Water Supply and Maintenance Project Facebook page or the Lam Pao Dam Line group.

As of September 26, 2024, flooding from the Pa River has affected over 500 rai of rice farming land in the lower area of Mueang Kalasin district, with water levels exceeding 1 meter and expected to rise further.

Additionally, rising water levels also began to affect roads in the Si Than district (Udon Thani) to Tha Khantho (Kalasin) area.
