Man in Kamphaeng Phet arrested for selling sim cards to call center gangs

The Cyber Police in Thailand arrested a 35-year-old man from Kamphaeng Phet for selling mobile phone SIM cards used by scam call centers. On September 24, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence and seized a total of 198 SIM cards, including five that were registered and a mobile phone.

Police investigation had revealed that the suspect, identified as Phisarn Lamai, was operating under the Facebook account “Lamai Phisan,” where he posted offers to sell mobile numbers within certain online groups. His actions facilitated the misuse of registered numbers by criminals for fraud.

Phisarn confessed that he purchased empty SIM cards for 80 baht each, paid 15 baht to others for registration, and sold them for 120 baht, netting a profit of 25 baht per card. He had been running this scheme for approximately three months, with average monthly sales of 1,500-1,600 SIM cards, yielding him about 37,500-40,000 baht in monthly income.

The operation involved top officials, including Police Chief Worawat Watnakornbanchai, who emphasized the importance of tackling such criminal activities that exploit technology for scams.
