Mother donates daughter’s organs, saving five lives at 13

A mother has donated the organs and eyes of her 13-year-old daughter, “Baimhon” (Acharaporn Awchai), to help five individuals awaiting transplants after her tragic death from a motorcycle accident.

On September 25, 2024, at Somdet Phra Phutthalertla Hospital in Samut Songkhram, a touching ceremony took place to honor Baimhon’s memory and the kindness of her mother. Officials presented a certificate from the Thai Red Cross Society’s organ donation center along with a wreath to express gratitude and condolences to her family.

Mrs. Naraporn Srichainat, Baimhon’s 33-year-old mother, tearfully recounted her daughter’s charitable nature and described the donation as a great act of merit that will continue to help others.

Dr. Thongpoon emphasized that “organ donation generates great merit for the giver and a new life for the receiver.” He noted that in Buddhism, donating organs is considered the highest form of giving, allowing for a continued valuable life for others.

Baimhon suffered a fatal brain injury after her motorcycle accident and was treated at Somdet Phra Phutthalertla Hospital. Following her death, her family decided to donate her organs, which included two eyes, two kidneys, and a liver, ultimately saving five lives.

The donation is viewed as a significant act of charity, believed to elevate Baimhon to the highest heaven.

Those interested in organ and eye donation can do so at the Thai Red Cross Society or Somdet Phra Phutthalertla Hospital during business hours, or at blood donation units at various locations at any time.
