A tragic incident occurred when a mother took her 6-year-old daughter to borrow money during a rainstorm to buy food. In a moment of distraction, the young girl fell into a water pit and drowned. Rescue teams eventually discovered her body.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on September 24, authorities, including police and rescue workers from the Chanthaburi area, responded to reports of a child drowning near Wat Sra Kaew. The body was located at the bottom of a water pit, approximately 3 meters wide and 15 meters long, which was being used for fish farming and irrigation.
The deceased, a first-grade student from a local school, was found wearing a blue shirt and a school skirt, without any visible injuries. Initial examinations found no cause of death beyond drowning.
The girl’s mother, 34-year-old Ms. Sulisa, expressed her grief and explained that they had traveled from their home to borrow 200 baht from a neighbor to buy food, as they had not eaten in several days. She left her daughter waiting on the motorcycle while she arranged the loan; however, she lost sight of her for just a moment.
After finishing up with the neighbor, she noticed her daughter was missing and started searching the area, eventually calling the police for assistance. A villager reported seeing a girl near the water pit, leading to the tragic discovery.
Ms. Sulisa lives with her parents and struggles to support her three children after separating from her husband. She expressed her despair over the incident and the financial inability to provide a proper funeral for her daughter.
The neighbor, former police officer Thawil Khanwiset, confirmed that he lent Ms. Sulisa the money while noticing her daughter was present. However, by the time he looked again, the child had vanished.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanrit Sujcharoen has ordered an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Previously, on September 9, there was also a report of a missing child in Chanthaburi, but the authorities successfully located that child unharmed.
