Police chief launches nationwide reporting center for victims

Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirath Phanphet has ordered the establishment of nationwide centers to receive complaints regarding “The Icon Group” case. This initiative aims to facilitate and reduce the burden on victims reporting their cases. If any complaints are refused, commanders are instructed to investigate and report the matter directly to the Police Chief.

On October 18, 2024, a meeting was held by the Police Chief to track developments in setting up these complaint centers, which was attended by various key police officials. The Police Chief emphasized the need to support victims who face difficulties due to the large scale of distress caused by this case.

These local complaint centers will allow victims in different provinces to report incidents without the need to travel to the Central Bureau of Investigation for Consumer Protection Crimes. The establishments of these centers will be synchronized across the country.

The centers will be manned by adequate staff to avoid disrupting local operations, and daily reports of activities will be sent to the National Police Office. If there are any refusals to accept complaints, these instances must be reported to the Police Chief immediately, along with public announcements to raise awareness about the complaint process through various channels.

The Police Chief noted that the number of victims frequently visiting the Central Bureau averages between 300 to 500 individuals daily. Due to this high volume, the previous staffing levels were insufficient. As such, the establishment of these centers is modeled after the efforts at the Bureau for handling complaints, improving case management going forward. This initiative aims to provide a clearer picture and quicker processing of complaints in similar cases in the future.
