Police Chief of Nonthaburi, Pol. Lt. Gen. Parthana Phanpa, addressed a case where police initially refused to accept a complaint regarding “Di Icon Group,” clarifying it was a misunderstanding due to poor communication. The female victim, Ms. Ying, apologized to the Bang Bua Thong Police Station for her miscommunication.
The victim had traveled from another province to file a report at the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) after local police declined to take her complaint, citing a busy workload and redirecting her to the ECD. In light of this, ECD’s Deputy Commander, Pol. Lt. Col. Parinya Pala, mentioned that all police stations have been instructed to accept complaints without exception, with serious disciplinary action for non-compliance.
On October 13, 2024, at the Bang Bua Thong Police Station, the police leadership met with the victim and her husband to discuss the situation. Ms. Ying claimed involvement with Di Icon as a representative for 250,000 THB, having been lured into investing during COVID-19. After initial investments and persistent pressure to invest more, she realized she had been abandoned by the company after investing a total of 250,000 THB.
During the case, Ms. Ying had difficulty finding where to file her complaint, as she was uncertain if the Economic Crime Division was open. Eventually, she visited Bang Bua Thong Police, but felt her questions regarding filing were also mishandled. After a misunderstanding with local reporters, she offered an apology to the police for the communication error, affirming good treatment received during the investigation.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Parthana explained that the victim initially reached out to Bang Yai Police Station, not Bang Bua Thong. There was confusion about the correct channels for reporting, leading her to the ECD after receiving mixed signals about where to file her complaint. He reiterated directives for police stations to accept reports and gather evidence effectively, reinforcing the urgency for clarity in such cases.
