The police are urgently pursuing a suspect who shot and killed a “motorcycle mechanic” in a drive-by shooting, firing three shots at him while he was riding his motorcycle.
At around 12:30 AM on October 24, 2024, Officer Pravitr Kroongsiri reported to his superiors about the shooting incident that occurred in Soi Phetkasem 97 near the intersection with Aom Noi Canal Road in Samut Sakhon. He promptly arrived at the scene with investigation team members, forensic evidence officers, medical personnel, and volunteers.
Upon investigation, the deceased, identified as 43-year-old Chanchai Noijaroen, was found lying in a pool of blood. Near his body was a helmet he was wearing and the black Honda motorcycle he was riding when shot. Three 9mm shell casings were also found on the road nearby.
The victim had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, left chest, and mid-back. Notably, a woman was riding with him at the time but was unharmed and was taken by police for questioning to gather information about the shooter.
Witnesses reported that at a nearby shelter where motorcycle taxis usually rest, several locals were gathered when they saw the victim approach from Phetkasem Road. They initially did not pay attention to the two motorcycles as traffic was common there. However, when they reached the intersection, both motorcycles slowed down, and the attacker seemingly shouted at the victim before pulling a gun and firing three shots in quick succession, causing them to fall.
After the incident, the witnesses panicked; however, they soon called the police. By the time medical personnel arrived, it was clear that the victim could not be revived.
The victim’s parents stated that he was a motorcycle mechanic near Buddhist Monument Line 5 and often returned home late after picking up his girlfriend. They were unaware of any conflicts or problems he might have had, as he had not shared such details with them.
In response to the shooting, police have been instructed to search for surveillance footage to track the suspect’s route and gather other evidence. Investigators are also interviewing the female passenger and witnesses to uncover potential motives for the crime. The body of the victim has been sent for autopsy at Siriraj Hospital.
