Police release suspect description in mall car theft case

Police have released a description of a female suspect involved in the theft of a new car from a shopping mall in Min Buri, Bangkok. The suspect has removed the vehicle’s license plate.

On October 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM, Lt. Col. Yutthana Meungchuen received a report of a stolen black Honda HR-V SUV with a Bangkok red license plate (H-7086) parked in front of The Street Ratchada mall. Investigators, including Deputy Police Chief Ruchiphat Thiraom Boon, went to the scene.

Police Chief Prasopchok Eamphinich revealed that the 25-year-old vehicle owner was running errands in the area and stopped to buy coffee at the mall while leaving her male black Thai cat in the car. She did not turn off the engine as she feared the cat would overheat without air conditioning.

As she was about to enter the mall, she saw someone driving away in her car and shouted for help from the mall staff. The thief attempted to find another exit but was blocked; however, they ultimately managed to drive through a barricade and flee onto Ratchada Road towards Sutthisan Intersection.

Investigation teams have confirmed the suspect is female and noted that the stolen vehicle is moving in the Min Buri area without a license plate. The car has only a small amount of fuel left but can still travel approximately 100 kilometers. If the engine is turned off, it will not restart due to being out of range from the remote. The victim stated that she does not recognize the thief, and law enforcement officials are currently attempting to apprehend the suspect.
