Police update on The Icon case: 9 days, damage at 841 million

The Deputy Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau reported on the progress of the “D.I.Con Group” case over a nine-day period where more than 2,000 victims have filed complaints, totaling damages of 841 million baht. No money laundering charges have been filed against the 18 suspects yet.

As of October 18, 2024, it was announced that 2,170 victims reported incidents between October 9 and 17. Commander Pol Gen Kittiratt Phanpet instructed agencies to set up nationwide complaint centers and ensure a thorough investigation.

The Deputy Commander emphasized the need to gather evidence, with legal processes underway for suspect detentions, and potential additional charges depending on witnesses’ testimonies. Investigators are prioritizing victim statements and collecting text message evidence. Victims have been categorized into groups including team leaders and direct victims to minimize the impact on them.

Regarding the transfer of digital assets, assistance from the Economic Crime Suppression Division has been requested for asset tracing. Currently, 24 vehicles, 7.5 million baht in cash, 51 watches, luxury bags, and branded items worth 210 million baht have been seized.

Authorities are investigating possible money laundering related to asset relocation, and reports regarding nominees as victims are being examined. If the case meets special case criteria, it may be transferred to the Special Investigation Department, though no money laundering charges have yet been pressed against the suspects.

Additionally, investigations into bribery and related audio recordings involving politicians are under the responsibility of another deputy commander, who will provide further updates.
