Sra Kaeo agents thrive as meth sales surge in villages

Sakaeo authorities have ramped up efforts to combat a surge in methamphetamine trafficking amidst local communities receiving 10,000 baht from government economic stimulus funds. The targeted campaigns are taking place in the Kaoh Chakan district, where vulnerable populations are believed to be at risk of engaging with drug dealers.

At 12:30 AM on September 29, 2024, Governor Somjai Puthsena ordered a special operations unit to patrol the area to maintain order and disrupt drug trade activities. Reports indicated that there were extensive dealings in methamphetamine occurring, particularly after the cash influx from the government.

The first arrest involved a 29-year-old man named Pakorn, who was found trying to flee from authorities when they approached him on a motorcycle with 49 meth tablets in his possession. He confessed to recently selling three tablets for 100 baht just before his capture.

Subsequent testing revealed drug use, leading to multiple charges against him including possession and illegal sale of methamphetamine.

The second suspect, 34-year-old Burisuth, was also apprehended later in the same area with 131 meth tablets found concealed in his clothing. A drug test confirmed his use of meth, resulting in similar legal action as the first suspect.
