Temporary closure of Nakhii Waterfall and Cave after heavy rain

After heavy rainfall in Nakhon Phanom province, Phu Lanka National Park has temporarily closed the popular tourist sites “Nam Tok and Tham Naki” for safety reasons. Authorities are monitoring high-risk areas, particularly around 200 households near a stream.

As reported on September 24, Nakhon Phanom experienced heavy rainfall over the past 2-3 days, especially near Phu Lanka National Park in Ban Phaeng district, with an average rainfall of 100-140 millimeters. This led to flooding in key tourist spots such as Tad Pho and Tad Kham waterfalls, as well as access routes to Tham Naki and Tham Naka caves. Additionally, there were incidents of landslides.

The park management has decided to close access temporarily to prevent tourist accidents and to restore travel routes. Conditions are expected to improve, and if heavy rains do not continue, the sites may reopen in 1-2 days. Recent updates indicate that rainfall has decreased, leading to a normalization of floodwater levels, although monitoring is still required.

Moreover, there are at-risk areas in the village of Baan Phai Lom, located near Phu Lanka mountain and the Langa stream. Over 200 households are situated in this flood-prone region, which frequently experiences flooding due to the overflow of the Phu Lanka stream into the Mekong River. Residents are advised to prepare and elevate their belongings to avoid potential damage from flash floods, as the area has historically faced flooding almost every year. Continuous monitoring and readiness are emphasized 24 hours a day.
