As part of the economic stimulus plan for 2024, the Thai government will release THB 10,000 to over 14 million individuals, including welfare card holders and vulnerable groups, between September 25 and 30, 2024. An online survey by Thai Rath examined how people intend to use this government-distributed money. The majority reported that they would spend it on daily necessities and various items. Key findings include:
1. Household items (soap, toothpaste, detergent) – 4,384 respondents (63.67%)
2. Educational materials – 1,731 respondents (25.14%)
3. Electrical appliances – 1,506 respondents (21.87%)
4. Agricultural products – 1,171 respondents (17.01%)
5. IT products (mobile phones) – 1,108 respondents (16.09%)
6. Unsure about purchases – 1,094 respondents (15.89%)
Among those surveyed, 1,648 plan to use the entire amount within 30 days, 730 within 15 days, and 703 within a week. Additionally, 3,804 respondents anticipate using the funds over more than 30 days.
The survey included 6,885 participants, primarily aged 16-35 (2,653 respondents), followed by ages 36-55 (2,353), and 56 and older (1,592). Income levels showed that 3,737 earn less than THB 15,000, while 1,247 earn between THB 15,001 to 30,000, and 742 earn THB 30,001 to 70,000. 1,159 individuals did not disclose their income.
Geographically, most respondents are from Bangkok (1,743), followed by Central Thailand (1,508), Northeast Thailand (1,411), Northern Thailand (808), Southern Thailand (702), Eastern Thailand (595), and Western Thailand (118).
