Tragic: Deputy police chief commits suicide at station

A tragic incident occurred when “Deputy Bird” (Prakot Yosanan), the Deputy Chief of Police at Udomsuk Station, took his own life in his office. The incident happened around 3:30 PM on September 30. Officers heard a gunshot while working in the building, and upon investigation, they discovered him sitting at his desk with a gunshot wound to the head. Evidence suggests he used a 9mm pistol, which was found next to him.

Initial inquiries indicate that prior to the incident, there was a police conference discussing crime prevention results, which showed positive outcomes for Udomsuk Station. His superiors, including Deputy Commissioner Nopasin Phulsawat, informed that Prakot had recently received a pay raise and appeared to be in good health. However, it is believed he suffered from depression and had expressed reluctance to take medication for his condition, as noted by people close to him. Surveillance footage confirmed he entered his office alone just before the incident.

Prakot was a graduate of the Police Academy Class of 57 and was married with two daughters. The investigation continues, and his body has been sent for a detailed examination. This incident highlights the need for awareness and support regarding mental health issues within police forces.
