Two major dams increase water release, warning for low-lying areas in Lampang

Lampang has faced continuous heavy rain, prompting two large dams to increase water discharge. Residents in low-lying areas of Lampang municipality are warned to be cautious of potential flooding as water levels rise. A bridge over the Tuay River has also collapsed, prohibiting all vehicles from crossing.

As of September 25, flooding has affected villages near the Wang River, with water levels in areas such as Na Saeng and Na Kiam North reaching depths of 30 cm to over 2 meters. Authorities have evacuated residents to safer locations. Despite a recent decrease in water levels, rain has caused them to rise again, leading to increased water discharge from the Giew Lom and Giew Kohma dams due to heavy rainfall in nearby national parks.

By 9:00 AM, the Giew Lom Dam was discharging water at a rate of 324 cubic meters per second, affecting low-lying areas downstream in the municipality. The water level at the Ratchada Bridge was red-flagged at 9:33 AM, indicating a critical situation.

The water level in the Wang River continues to rise, with measurements at 3.7 meters at the Setuari Bridge causing overflow into residential areas and streets along the riverbank. Residents are working to build sandbag barriers in response. Additionally, the Wang River has flooded roads in the Khot Wong area.

Reports also indicate structural damage to the bridge over the Tuay River in Ban Namthong due to erosion, leading local authorities to prohibit all vehicular traffic on the bridge.
